Job Description

Role Overview

To work as part of the wider Tax team specialising in VAT consultancy work. A separate team does the VAT compliance so this is a purely a VAT consultancy role for someone with considerable VAT knowledge. The Assistant Manager will take direct responsibility for client requirements and require little partner involvement beyond final review.  He or she will be fully responsible for WIP control, billing procedures and debtor control and will take full responsibility for the effective production of work within the team, including mentoring, assisting with team organisation and  team appraisals.  He or she will be commercial and proactive in fee development


Principle Responsibilities:

  • Review Business Team or client-prepared VAT returns
  • Prepare more complex returns if required
  • Advice with any HMRC enquiries on client VAT position
  • Applications for partial exemption methods etc
  • Health check of VAT position
  • Suggest improvements to processes
  • Sign off on VAT sections of Corporate files
  • Health check of VAT position if required
  • Spot any planning opportunities
  • Suggest improvements to processes/revamp any checklist
  • Health check of VAT position if required
  • Spot any planning opportunities
  • Suggest improvements to processes
  • Involvement in bespoke client transactions
  • Key Account Meetings
  • Liaise with external advisors where needed
  • Involvement in Not-for-Profit sector
  • Charities and Academies
  • Exploring opportunities with charities partner, Helena Wilkinson
  • Tax Help Desk
  • Ad-hoc VAT queries from the rest of the firm
  • Work with external VAT consultants and manage when required
  • General assistance with Tax Consulting Team as required
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings
  • Help with any marketing initiatives
  • Use knowledge to assist with employment tax/share scheme related queries
  • The Tax Community
  • Maintain technical education            
  • Be actively involved with any CPD you think you might need
  • Help keep rest of firm updated if key changes/updates in VAT world
  • Developing referrer and client relationships
  • Networking (not just VAT related) to extent that can/have a desire to do so
  • Continue involvement with VAT Practitioners Group ‘VPG’
