The Senior Innovation Manager is an exciting role supporting the commercialisation of Rothamsted's world-class science from the point of innovation to the delivery of impact. As a senior member of the Innovation and Commercialisation Team, the role will involve working closely with our science researchers to progress their innovations along commercial pathways towards the formation of a spinout, collaboration or other commercial outcome.
In this role, the Senior Innovation Manager, will lead the management of all aspects of a commercialisation project ranging from the protection of intellectual property and formation of effective collaborations, through to the negotiation of licence agreements and creation of business plans for spin-out companies originating from IP generated across the two Rothamsted sites.
This is a role that requires the candidate to have a broad business and personal skillset, with a demonstrable interest or background in science or agriculture. The candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to influence and support colleagues effectively, and spend time directly working with colleagues with a range of experiences and knowledge. The role will involve supporting scientists with time-specific pressures on some aspects of their work and to assist researchers in developing their innovations, through a mix of case work and support/guidance. The role will be predominantly providing ‘hands-on’ case work (approximately 60%) as well as engaging with internal and external people (30%) and training of staff in enterprise and entrepreneurial skills, including interaction with the Science Innovation Leaders (10%). The Senior Innovation Manager will provide mentoring to researchers in entrepreneurism and in the setup of spinouts and start-ups. They may elect to have direct involvement in some of the spinouts that are formed.
The post is initially funded until 31 March 2023, with possible extension, attracting a salary ranging between £45,000- £51,000 per annum for 37 hours per week.
