Job Description
The Restructuring and Insolvency Tax team provides tax compliance and advisory services to the firm's Restructuring and Insolvency practices. This includes advising on statutory insolvency appointments, pre insolvency restructuring, rescue planning and high profile fraud cases.
The candidate will be an integral part of the team, assisting with the on-going compliance responsibilities associated with formal statutory appointments undertaken by the firm (often involving the analysis of complex transactions) whilst also providing support on advisory projects and transactions undertaken by the team.
The Restructuring and Insolvency Tax team also works very closely with the Transactions Tax team in relation to stressed and distressed transactions and compliance services on portfolio companies. The candidate will also have the opportunity to become involved in compliance and advisory work on such cases.

Markets
- Builds an understanding of the key commercial and risk issues relevant to each appointment / assignment
- Develops an internal network within the tax team as well as the Restructuring and Insolvency practices
Clients
- Builds good rapport with Restructuring and Insolvency colleagues, gaining a clear understanding of their expectations and requirements from the tax team
- Provides general support to colleagues and clients in the provision of tax advice
- Attends meetings, answering queries when appropriate. Takes minutes and proactively encourages the partner/director/manager to follow up on agreed actions
Tax Delivery
- Prepares tax returns and computations in accordance with agreed timescales; ensures the efficient and risk managed delivery of compliance
- Supports managers on restructuring transactions, fraud investigation cases and other ad hoc advisory projects
- Assists with the preparation of advisory reports and technical papers
- Produces well supported technical research
- Regularly communicates directly with HMRC
- Reviews tax returns, computations and correspondence produced by junior colleagues
- Takes ownership of a portfolio of cases and acts as a point of contact for case managers within the firm
Client take-on / risk management
- Develops and applies awareness of the firm's risk management procedure
- Mitigates risks by involvement of senior people and ensures appropriate advice is sought
- Takes steps to minimise professional risk, including the appropriate documentation of services provided
Technical competence
- Applies technical knowledge to undertake relevant area of work (training regarding any insolvency aspects will be provided)
- Seeks solutions to technical issues and demonstrates a willingness to understand and recognise the breadth of possible technical issues
People
- Is an approachable and outgoing member of the team who takes a proactive interest in the team's performance and wellbeing
- Coaches and develops junior members of the team
- Inputs to all assignment appraisals for junior staff, and also completes self job appraisal and six-monthly forms on a timely basis
Operations and results
- Monitors and records own time incurred and undertakes analysis as directed
- Assists with managing work in progress and raising invoices as requested
Minimum requirements
- Tax background
- ACA/ACCA qualified time and exam within Tax
