The Government Property Agency (GPA) was launched as an Executive Agency of the Cabinet Office in 2018. The GPA represents a step change in the way that Government property estate and assets are managed efficiently, by providing innovative and flexible solutions across the Government estate. The GPA is expected to grow exponentially over the first few years of its existence; this equates to transferring hundreds of assets (worth billions of pounds) onto its balance sheet from Government Departments, as well as gaining responsibility for the running of a large part of the central government office estate. The GPA offers flexible working with the ability to work from home with occasional travel required to the Birmingham office.

The Reporting Accountant supports the processes of monitoring financial performance through timely and accurate reporting and risk management. The processes involve collecting, converting and supplying data to stakeholders to drive accountability. The role requires the post holder to support in delivering a function informed by analysis and underpinned by robust data.

The responsibilities of the Reporting Accountant will include

  • Support production of the monthly GPA and budget holder management accounts to tight deadlines
  • Analysing financial performance to identify variances and ensuring transactions are accounted for correctly
  • Support payroll accounting processes including deputising for the Senior Payroll Accountant
  • Support continuous process efficiencies and improvements across the function
  • Facilitating ad hoc reporting including Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests
  • Identifying trends, risks and opportunities in the financial data
  • Build relationships with key staff across Finance and the business in order to maintain effectiveness and relevance during change

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience of management accounting, ideally in a public sector context
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyse and interpret significant amounts of financial data
  • Strong focus on meeting stakeholder needs
  • Ability to seek out new information and self-develop
  • Experience of using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
  • Proficient using Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work in a geographically dispersed team
