Job Description

A fantastic opportunity for an ambitious Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a strong desire to be part of the advertising and media industry to work at a highly regarded financial consultancy advising senior marketers at some of the world’s best known brands.

Financial Progression is a rapidly growing, boutique consultancy specialising in helping household name brands understand the extent to which their marketing services agencies (media, creative, PR, events etc.) are operating in accordance with their contracts and financial best practice.

Operating globally from the UK, Financial Progression is experiencing increasing demand for our services from clients in banking, sports, technology, FMCG, utilities, retail and the public sector. Our rigorous, flexible, professional and insightful approach has enabled us to attract a wide range of global, regional and national advertisers as clients. We are one of the most highly respected firms in our field in the world, one of the two most widely recognised in Europe, according to the World Federation of Advertisers in 2019, and a preferred partner of the Incorporated Society of British Advertisers. In 2021, we are working closely with the UK’s largest advertiser, whose annual marketing budget exceeds £500m, under a multi-year agreement.

Our clients see us as trusted advisors who help them ensure that their marketing budgets are spent exactly as intended. You will have immediate exposure to our clients, who are typically senior managers or directors in marketing, procurement and finance, and their agencies, typically account and finance directors. Working exclusively for brands, you will advise them on how to make the financial side of their agency relationships more efficient and effective by enhancing the operation of their marketing finance processes, agency contracts and risk management practices.

You will have the opportunity to significantly develop your commercial skills, you will be involved in the firm’s own sales and marketing activities by writing articles for our website, presenting on industry issues to ISBA’s members (all household name brands) and, ultimately, pitching for business. In addition, you will be expected to critique our own ways of working and take responsibility for improving our templates, reporting and presentation formats. You will be encouraged to use your skills in financial analysis to identify new applications and technologies to deliver our services more efficiently and effectively.

In a small team focused business, each person’s contribution can make a profound and lasting difference. You will be encouraged from an early stage to learn how we operate so that you can be involved in selling our services, managing other team members, helping to run the business and managing its growth. The skills you will acquire will go beyond that of an industry expert, enabling you to become a well-rounded business professional capable of running a financial consultancy or other professional services firm. The opportunities available for personal and professional growth are limited only by your own ambition.

As a Regional Manager you will work closely with our Founder and Managing Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering first class agency contract compliance reports for a range of global consumer brands in EMEA, have an inquisitive and tenacious mindset, a strong commercial acumen and excellent listening skills.

Experience in working with agencies, media owners or consumer marketing teams from a finance perspective is desirable, though not essential – a passion for working in the advertising and media sector is, however, mandatory. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage potentially difficult individuals and situations, the desire to add value beyond the numbers and detailed reports that are easily digestible by non-finance professionals (marketing, procurement) are key to our proposition.

We are looking for an ambitious, qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA), with strong audit (public or internal) or operational finance experience in a marketing services agency or a media or consumer focused business. You will be eager to learn and continually develop your knowledge of the media and advertising industry. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to remain calm and objective in what can sometimes be challenging environments.

This is an important role with the opportunity to have a significant impact on the business. You will be responsible for managing client engagements from start to finish (strong report writing and written communication skills are essential) on your own or with another team member.

You will have the unique opportunity to be coached directly by the Founder and Managing Director who will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to be effective quickly in a niche and specialist area (there are no more than 100 professionals in the world who currently have our skill set and expertise). Our team structures are flat and are comprised of qualified professionals with extensive experience in the advertising and media world, meaning that there are plenty of colleagues available who are willing to impart their knowledge to help you succeed. Working in such a fast paced and inclusive environment, you will succeed!

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the role is a significant opportunity for an individual who is looking to take a major step forward in their professional and commercial development. Unlike other financial consulting roles, it is an opportunity to work with exciting and forward thinking clients, who are at the heart of consumer marketing, and their agencies.

The opportunity does require the successful individual to spend up to 5 consecutive working days a month in London or another major European city (once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted), attend quarterly team meetings in the Thames Valley, living within 90 minutes of an international airport.

All candidates should hold the right to work indefinitely in the UK and be able to provide evidence of their professional qualifications. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens with settled status in the UK or dual British citizenship will be looked upon favourably.

Please contact Amanda Lamble on 01932 584800 or amanda@lawsonware.com for futher information and a strictly confidential introductory conversation.

We look forward to hearing from you!
