A qualified accountant is needed for a new and exciting permanent Project Accountant role in South Oxfordshire
Your new company
My client is a public organisation established by government and responsible for planning and delivering geological disposal in the UK. They collaborate with scientists around the world on multi-million pound research programmes, sharing the latest scientific advances and best practice. They also work with the producers of radioactive waste to find ways to package it that are suitable for disposal in a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF). Their vision is to create a safer future by managing radioactive waste effectively, to protect people and the environment. Their team includes scientists and engineers with over 30 years' experience in carrying out research and development to support geological disposal, supported by community engagement specialists. They are a subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), a public sector organisation tasked by the UK government with the safe and efficient clean-up of Britain's civil nuclear legacy.
Your new role
Support the Head of Finance in the delivery of key strategic, operational and authoritative financial controls and advice outside of the monthly reporting cycle, including but not limited to preparation of statutory accounts; Spending Review and business plan preparation; tax planning and advice; business systems and process optimisation; supply chain due diligence; fraud, bribery & corruption risk monitoring and control.
What you'll need to succeed
- Educated to Degree standard, preferably in a related field
- Recognised Consultative Committee of Accounting Bodies (CCAB) accountancy qualification with a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience
- Extensive experience in similar role: including a good working knowledge of UK GAAP, taxation, off-payroll working rules (IR35), project management; partnership working in cross functional teams; the ability to think strategically; proven ability to determine business needs and develop reports using specialist financial reporting tools; experience of forecasting and cost estimation. Highly ICT literate with extensive knowledge of finance systems, Microsoft Outlook, Word and advanced Excel. An awareness of Government Accounting and Managing Public Money beneficial
- Key skills include: strong numerical and analytical skills, high level of accuracy and attention to detail, ability to manage time to meet external and internal deadlines, diplomatic, tact and confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills are required as the post holder will be expected to engage with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally.
