Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the successful candidate will provide an efficient and effective financial accountant support service, including high quality financial advice & guidance, for the Trust. The post-holder will support the Chief Financial Officer and CEOs in the delivery of the Trust's strategic and operational plans.

My client is a growing Multi-Academy Trust based in Slough.


The key responsibilities of the Financial Accountant will be:

  • Ensure that the Trust's finances and financial systems provide the necessary outputs in a timely and accurate manner
  • Support the CFO with all aspects of the development and effective operation of the finance function of the Trust in accordance with statutory requirements
  • Co-ordinate and complete administrative routines relating to orders, invoices, cheques, income, payroll and the receipt and distribution of goods and services
  • Ensure balance sheet items are managed and monitored, including reviewing and checking monthly reconciliations for all key balances and control accounts
  • Support the CFO in monitoring all nominal ledger budgets and with the production of regular comprehensive management reports, to ensure efficient and effective control of income and expenditure, complying with the Trust's financial procedures and Academies Financial Handbook
  • Ensure that all returns, reports and documentation are completed accurately within time constraints including reports to Trustees and statistical returns (internal and external)
  • Develop and implement best practice accounting practices and processes, and train and guide the new and existing designated finance representatives/administrators in each school and finance colleagues
  • Working in partnership with the CEO & CFO, develop the three-year financial plan, taking into account the DFE guidelines/funding and identifying additional sources of external revenue and funding

The successful candidate for the Financial Accountant will be:

  • A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA)
  • Effective computing skills for management
  • Ability to develop, interpret and communicate financial positions using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Ability to build effective working relationships all stakeholders; staff, senior leaders, governors, Trust Board
  • Ability to demonstrate high-level technical ability in understanding and effectively communicating codes of practices and accounting standards
  • Secure knowledge of statutory requirements relating to finance and accounting
  • Experience of working in the education and training sector would be desirable but not essential

My client is offering a basic salary range of £40,000 - £43,000 and other benefits
