About the role

As part of this role you'll need to ensure the timely submission of complete and accurate periodic and year end numbers to Group for the UK business and to support the completion and sign off of legal entity financial statements within the UK business. 

You will be responsible for

  • co-ordinating the completion of the consolidated periodic and year end financial accounts for the main UK business and managing the submission in HFM to Group, along with the related commentary files which should provide effective and complete explanations of all key movements in the financial numbers
  • managing regular de brief sessions following each period end with all relevant stakeholders to identify gaps and issues along with an action plan for the next period   
  • co-ordinating the half year and year end audit of the UK financial accounts
  • working collaboratively to ensure consistent compliance with Tesco Group Accounting Standards within the main UK business and to support the implementation of new standards or the reinterpretation of existing standards
  • taking ownership for specific legal entities and consolidation entities within the UK structure and ensuring through review that the periodic accounting produced by TBS are complete and properly supported by balance sheet reconciliations
  • reviewing the draft financial statements for those legal entities and supporting the sign off process by the Directors 
  • Working collaboratively with teams across the UK Finance, Group Finance, Tesco Business Services and the Group Process Owners to deliver process and system improvements and ensure compliance with Group processes 
  • being able to backfill and cover for the other team members within the UK Central Control

You will need

  • Experience of working in a financial control role in a complex and fast paced organisation.
  • Track record of delivering finance process and system improvements
  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
  • Strong understanding of IFRS GAAP
  • Technical financial system knowledge 
  • Independent and pro-active in nature
