Job Description

Day Group Limited (Day Group) are a privately owned and hugely successful independent aggregates business.  They have a diverse offering of aggregates, recycling and haulage solutions built up over many years.  Established in 1947, they now have 20+ sites across the UK and have grown both organically and through acquisition.

Despite the impact of COVID-19, they have been extremely fortunate and have maintained a very sound performance, impressively increasing turnover and profit. Based in the Brentford Head office, there will be some scope to work from home, however as a leader and a key member of the senior leadership team you will need to be office based and regularly visiting the company’s operations across the south of England.

Your new role

As Finance Director you will report directly to the Managing Director, provide commercial guidance and financial stewardship to the business and senior management team. You will ensure strategies and commercial decisions deliver success, while at the same time complying with company’s core values of Pride, Excellence, Security and Respect.

You will oversee and take responsibility for the finance function and represent the business with external stakeholders including banks, auditors and insurers.

Support the boards and departments strategic objectives, report on financial performance and provide key financial leadership.

Foster business partnering relationships with commercial managers, teams and credit teams to ensure performance, risks and commercials are considered.

Manage the relationships with external funders to ensure the organisation can meet its strategic objectives in a cost-effective manner.

Ensure the payroll function is working as intended in compliance with appropriate legislation.

Liaise with company advisors on both company and personal taxations issues.  

Mange the credit insurance renewal process with the Credit Manager.

Continue to develop financial systems and project lead and upgrade of the company accounting software package (Microsoft Dynamics NAV).

Support the divisions in providing capital appraisal analysis evaluating acquisitions and significant expenditure projects in order to make clear strategic decisions.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be a qualified accountant, (ACA, CIMA OR ACCA) with at least 6 years PQE in a multi-functional divisional business.

Demonstrate a caring and collaborative approach to business.

Offer senior management experience or board level experience of running a finance function.

Demonstrate commercial understanding and influence outside a finance function.

Confident persuasive presenter, capable of representing a business to internal and external stakeholders.

Demonstrate you can understand and motivate your direct reports as well as gain the confidence of both peers at director and senior manager level throughout the organisation.

Able to provide evidence of working on team projects and improving process and procedures.

An understanding of the dynamics of a divisional SME or family-owned business.
