Finance Director post to work with a £10m income charity. The role will have a strategic focus.
St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) is a Charity whose aim is to tackle poverty in all its forms through the provision of practical assistance to those in need. Their 10,000 volunteer members, motivated by their faith, are committed to meaningful and long-term befriending. The core service is complemented by additional areas of activity - community support projects including community shops, furniture stores and advice centres, youth work, holiday provision and overseas aid. The current total income of the organisation is £10m but there is complexity due to the high number of projects the organisation manages.
A newly created opportunity, the Director of Finance will lead the finance team and provide strategic support to the senior management team and trustees. You will report to the CEO and manage two staff directly including the Financial Controller based in Bradford and the Head of Technology. This role will be based in London and provide a strong link between the finance team and the management team. You will be required to travel regularly to Bradford and some of the project offices. The ability to communicate and build relationships remotely and in person will be essential to success in this role. The Director of Finance will be tasked with tackling some of the organisation's challenges including the formation of a strategic plan, a review of systems, policies and procedures and the provision of reports to stakeholders. This role will be key to ensuring that the organisation has a sustainable plan for the future that allows the organisation to continue with its good work.
The ideal candidate for this role will be a senior level qualified Accountant with previous experience of working within the charity sector. You will be a strong communicator with the ability to engage with stakeholders in various locations and you will have the ability to liaise with them both remotely and in person - this will include travel to locations including Bradford. You will be a strategic thinker with a strong alignment to SVP's mission. It is important that you understand and have a commitment to equal opportunities. You will have sympathy with the Christian aims and purposes of the society and will be able to value people of all faiths or none. You will understand and empathise with the Vincentian ethos, values and the work of the society.
What you'll get in return
The SVP offer a competitive salary and benefits. You will be working with a fantastic team and the role also offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with stakeholders to have big strategic impact.
