CEM: Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring, ordinarily based at Baltic Place on the Quayside, is jointly part of Cambridge Assessment and Cambridge University Press, themselves ultimately part of Cambridge University. We are looking for a proactive Finance Business Partner to drive business performance, commercial leadership and insights. Supporting the Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team with relevant and timely analytics, you will be ensuring effective financial controls, contract management and business compliance across CEM.
Part of the wider Finance team in Cambridge you will be comfortable with the autonomy this role brings, whilst having the full support of a wider function when required.
Delivering strategic ambitions
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will provide financial insights and commercial, strategic analysis, enabling timely informed decisions to shape and deliver our CEM strategic ambitions. Fulfilling the Cambridge financial requirements, you’ll lead on annual and multi-year budgeting, forecasting and scenario planning, accountable for all aspects of the CEM budget, resources and records and controls for income and expenditure in an all-round financial role.
You will also be responsible for the delivery of monthly management accounts, performance analysis and reporting, providing a full provision of variance analysis, key financial performance indicators and recommendations, derived from data to measure progress and delivery. Keeping your financial and commercial stakeholders within Cambridge up to date by providing meaningful presentations and insights to communicate regular performance reporting.
Helping us to deliver, safely
As the lead commercial support to our sales and technology teams, you will be involved in pricing, bid and tender management, contract terms, business cases and proposal evaluation, as well as ongoing compliance and ad-hoc tasks as required. Responsible for the sales invoicing and running of financial processes, you will act as the key financial liaison with Cambridge to ensure CEM’s compliance with financial, legal, commercial and operational processes, ensuring appropriate controls are established, monitored and maintained. Continuously looking to improve you will ensure that our processes are evaluated and improved, such as, sales invoicing and recognition, procurement to payment, HR, legal and FOI requests, data and information security, risk management and property.

What we’re looking for
Our successful candidate will be naturally customer focused and have successfully led through periods of change and have a proven approach to resolving complex problems. Commercially aware they will have excellent negotiation skills, with the aptitude to work autonomously when required and experience of working with both large and small organisations.
With a recognised financial professional qualification such as CIMA, ICAEW or ACCA, you will be at least 3-5 PQE and preferably have a Graduate Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience. With strong financial management and reporting skills, either gained in a Financial Controller or a similar Finance Business Partner role, you will have a proven record of success in senior-level commercial management post (e.g. contract management, finance, procurement). Equally important will be your management of people and resources experience, and demonstrable examples of how you have identified process and system improvements and worked with colleagues to affect positive change.
Experience of reporting at a senior level and providing analytical insight and guidance with business decision making is key. You will have experience of legal and contractual terms, risk, and a good understanding of UK Data Protection Legislation.
