We are currently recruiting for a Business Services Supervisor in our Agriculture department which is rapidly expanding due to business growth.
As chartered accountants and business advisers offering audit, accounts, strategic tax and business development advice as one of the major Accountancy and Financial Services firms practising in the South East of England, we would be looking for an experienced Business Services Supervisor to look after established clients.
This role will involve you:
•To look after a significant and established client base including a number of large businesses, including some farming businesses.Portfolio size c£300k
•To assist in the development of Agricultural Focus Group including involvement in networking and the preparation of fact sheets and technical articles.
•Agricultural experience is preferred but not essential.
•Contributing to the provision of an excellent service to a diverse range of clients, providing support to managers and partners, and supervising junior staff.
•Reporting to managers and partners and taking responsibility for completing tasks accurately, to deadline and liaising with the client in line with the Client Charter.
•Ensuring that client hygiene targets relevant for your grade are adhered to.
•Travelling to and from clients’ premises and our other offices from time to time.
•Demonstrating initiative and judgement although supervision and advice will be available at all times.
•Developing technical expertise and progressing against technical competencies.
•Progressing against designated exams (where appropriate).
•Gaining new work from existing or new clients where possible.
•Acting as a client supervisor in relation to appropriate clients and/or their engagements.
The following qualities are desirable:

•Honesty and integrity
2 A levels at grade C or equivalent.
Qualified (ACCA or above) or qualified by experience (possibly with AAT).
A working knowledge of Key, Key Prime and Sage would be beneficial
Your main duties will include:
The client’s engagements
The following are typical of the tasks that you will be expected to carry out on the client’s behalf. They should not be confused with your responsibilities involved in managing a client and his engagements which are set out under responsibilities for controllers and supervisors.
•Be involved in the detailed preparation only of complex or larger business accounts from the client’s detailed or incomplete records using the firm’s accounting software;
•Review accounts and working papers to an extent appropriate to the complexity of the engagement and experience of the staff thus far involved;
•Carry out the posting for complex or missing areas of accounts or oversee this;
•Review business related personal and partnership tax returns and interpret the results for the client*;
•Prepare more complex corporation tax returns and review the work of junior staff*;
*Tasks marked thus are subject to appropriate specialist training being received.
Staff training and other
•Providing on the job training for junior staff where possible and providing feedback on a timely basis.
•Assisting managers and partners with technical research and technical writing for client and marketing purposes.
•Volunteering for marketing events and firm-wide projects/recruitment representing the firm.
•Prepare/amend and/or approve letters and emails relating to more complex issues;
•Prepare replies to more complex client or third party correspondence, seeking further input as appropriate;
•Have direct contact with the client and third parties;
•Deal with the more technical enquiries from clients and other firm members;
•Deal with Enquiries raised by HMRC;
•Identify the potential for more complex tax planning opportunities and recommend appropriate strategies;
•Review forms P11D;
•Attend client meetings;
•Meet potential clients where appropriate.
•Supervising the preparation of corporate and partnership accounts for partner/manager review.
•Supervising the preparation of tax returns and corporation tax returns for partner/manager review.
•Day to day management, meeting various client facing demands including assisting with client queries, including potentially on site accounting processes and VAT Returns for high value clients
•Monitoring budgets/costs and assisting with billing procedures.
•Monitoring internal and external deadlines.
•Ensuring compliance with standard procedures.
•Actively work to promote the development of the Focus Group.
•Develop own role and technical skills to assist in resourcing succession issues.
These tasks will be carried out subject to minimal or no supervision.
It is anticipated that you will recognise situations where you need to seek technical assistance.
