Job Description

Reporting to the Audit and Accounts Partners, this position is designed to provide a high level of service to various audit clients. The main purpose of the role is to oversee the work of the audit & accounts staff and to ensure compliance with GAPP and practical guidance is provided on regulatory matters such as tax and VAT regulations, requirements of UK law and the principles of good governance. You will also be responsible for the preparation of year end accounts; preparation of tax returns and providing business advice to clients. This role will include full responsibility for a portfolio of clients.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing a client portfolio with higher level of client responsibility
  • Workflow management across team for own portfolio
  • Dealing with all elements of client service with support from Director/Partners for technical areas
  • Is able to spot and develop opportunities for the Group and flag to Director/Partner
  • More pro-active support, minimising client contact with partners
  • Work both autonomously and as part of a team
  • Responsible for delivery of quality advice and is capable to deal with ad hoc client issues
  • Supervises, allocates and reviews work of more junior members of the team in line with the people strategy
  • Coaches and mentors more junior members of staff; and supports and provides for their training and development, both formally and informally
  • Delegates work as appropriate; may have line management responsibilities
  • Hold responsibility for carrying out staff annual and interim performance reviews
  • Looks for continuous improvement within the team and across the Group
  • Aware of expected utilisation % budgeted and work towards delivering this
  • Careful narration of timesheet, capturing accurate analysis of work undertaken
  • To ensure that all the hours worked are recorded on your timesheet
  • Reviewing fee from approval list, ensuring any specialist work has been captured for the fee or if not a conversation has happened with the specialist service line involved.
  • Client managers must ensure that fee approval lists are monitored on a regular basis to ensure that fees are not held up in queue
  • Reviewing WIP on a monthly basis to ensure that fees are raised for any work that is completed or at a billable stage and that any doubtful time that may not be recovered is adequately provided, by updating CCH with the required provision
  • Reviewing debtors in conjunction with credit control to ensure any doubtful debts are adequately provided
  • Keeping credit control informed of any issues that may affect payment to invoices
  • Checking on a weekly basis all staff timesheets ensuring work is posted to correct matter and any unusual non chargeable entries challenged
  • Reviewing monthly KPI information, using Pivot table issued to understand any utilisation issues and reporting this to department/office manager

 

Knowledge Skills and Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA)
  • Previous experience in practice
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK
  • Experience of completing audit and accounts work for a variety of business entities
  • Possess a high level of technical knowledge combined with excellent commercial awareness
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to the audience
  • Proficient in the use of using a computerised audit systems
  • Competent in Microsoft office, including Excel and Word
  • Ability to identify commercial and professional risks and ensure these are managed effectively
  • Ability to prioritise workload in order to achieve work deadlines
  • Project a professional manner and appearance at all times
  • Track record of successfully managing, motivating and leading junior staff on assignments
  • Ability to delegate effectively
  • Driver with access to a car
