What you'll do
This high-profile public role reports directly to the Victorian Auditor-General, who provides assurance to Parliament on the performance of the Victorian Public Sector. VAGO positively affect the lives of Victorians by examining government entities' effectiveness, reporting on inefficiencies, and recommending how to improve future performance.
This role works with a small team of senior executive leaders to craft and implement our strategic goals, business planning, risk identification/mitigation, stakeholder and media management and resourcing activities.
You'll be the peak authority leading over 90 direct staff along with a large cohort of outsourced audit services providers. You'll oversee the Financial Audit division's operations by:
- Managing deliverables by monitoring and calibrating outputs, systems, resources and budgets
- Addressing contentious issues related to audits, Parliamentary reports, organisational strategies and people management
- Overseeing the development and maintenance of audit methodology and processes
- Identify and mitigate short, medium and long-term risks
- Improving team and individual performance by providing guidance, coaching and mentoring to your people, empowering them to reach their full potential
On occasion, you may also be sworn-in as Acting Auditor-General or Acting Deputy Auditor-General.

You're driven, pro-active and self-motivated with a history of achievement at leadership level in complex external financial audit environments.
Your background may include executive leadership roles in global private sector backgrounds with experience working on projects with significant public interest.
In addition, or alternatively, you may have exposure in public sector audit leadership roles at a state, provincial or national level in Australia or other countries with similar audit and assurance standards.
With advanced capabilities in strategic, operational, technical and people management activities, you operate effectively with a high degree of autonomy and delegated authority. Your experience includes playing a critical role in driving the transformation of business landscapes.
You build outstanding relationships with your people-centric approach and are a model of diplomatic and ethical leadership.
Proactive and with astute judgement skills, you are accomplished at managing advanced technical and sensitive projects and issues. These qualities complement your outstanding communication skills. You use these to provide clear and accurate direction and advice to stakeholders including Parliamentary and government leadership representatives.
You'll have tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Business, Finance, Science, Arts, Law or a related field, ideally at a postgraduate level.
