Job Description

Reporting to the Partners, this position is designed to provide a broad but high level of client service to primarily owner managed businesses including sole traders, companies and partnerships. The main purpose of the role is to be responsible for a portfolio of clients, shared management of the accounts team, preparation of year end accounts and providing tax and business advice to our clients.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a client portfolio as assigned by the Partners
  • Managing and leading a team to ensure the efficient preparation of accounts for a variety of clients
  • Carry out review work on accounts and other assignments prepared by team members
  • Delegate analysis work to more junior staff and monitor progress, including reviewing work once complete
  • Responsible for training and development of trainees within the team
  • Travelling to client premises as required and to deal with clients in a professional manner either in person, telephone or by email
  • To attend client meetings
  • Providing advice to clients on a broad spectrum of accounting and tax matters
  • Ensure client engagement documentation is up to date
  • Drafting of invoices to clients and to chase outstanding invoices
  • Regular review of client WIP and debtors
  • Preparation of proposals for new work
  • Attendance at marketing events
  • Conducting mid-year and annual appraisals
  • Approval of staff annual leave and training requests
  • Planning and executing the longer term strategy of the department along with the departmental partner
  • To advise and be involved in the recruitment process of new staff

 

Knowledge Skills and Experience

  • Qualified ACA/ACCA
  • Previous demonstrable practice experience in a similar level role
  • Experience in the preparation of financial statements.
  • Experience of working with Sage 50 Accounts, Xero, QuickBooks and other accounting packages
  • Experience in the preparation of corporation tax computations and personal tax returns.
  • To demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills with both internal and external clients
  • To demonstrate the ability to make decisions, solve problems and take appropriate action
  • To understand the link between effective performance management and business results
  • Ability to adapt leadership style for different team members
  • Ability to prioritise workload in order to achieve client accounting deadlines, as well as other day to day work
  • To demonstrate good timekeeping skills as well as displaying a professional attitude in all aspects of their work
