Head of Finance

Your new company

A Government Department is seeking a Head of Finance to join them for a 12-month FTC, starting ASAP. Based in Canary Wharf, they offer hybrid working with an expectation of 60% in office. This department provides advice to other government departments and public sector organisations both in the UK and globally.

Your new role

The Head of Finance role is within a small finance team and the post-holder will therefore have a broad remit. Main responsibilities will include:

• Lead the Finance team through the transition to a new finance system
• Ensure future business and system changes align to relevant accounting standards, best practice and Government Functional Standards
• Lead on financial accounting, preparation of the annual report and accounts and audit exercises
• Lead on external reporting to HM Treasury and the Cabinet Office, eg Main and Supplementary Estimates, spending controls and transparency returns
• Provide expert technical financial advice - complex accounting and budgeting issues

What you'll need to succeed

• Full CCAB (or equivalent) qualification
• Right to work in the UK
• You will be immediately available or available with no more than 1 month's notice.
• Demonstrable experience of financial accounting and reporting, ideally within the Civil Service or public sector
• Experience of leading a team through a finance system implementation
