Hays Specialist Recruitment is thrilled to announce our partnership with Harborough District Council for the recruitment of their Head of Financial Services role.Harborough District, in rural South Leicestershire, is a wonderful place to live, work, invest in and visit, with around 98,000 residents and covering 228 square miles.
This key role reporting into the Director of Resources (&S.151) will provide strategic support for services and their senior officers. The role is a strategic one within the council; its primary focus is on all aspects of local government finance applicable to a district council. However, the role requires strategic engagement with council members, all officers within the council and partners who work with the council. You will also lead a team that supports all aspects of finance, from strategic finance, through to budget setting and monitoring, treasury management and transactional finance.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you will need to be an experienced finance professional and confident communicator, able to get the best from your team through motivation and support, and to work effectively across team and service boundaries. You will need to be a qualified accountant with local government experience and adept at explaining complex local government finance issues.
In addition to holding a CCAB (or equivalent) accounting qualification, you should have a strong leadership background with experience in managing teams through change and delivering results. You'll need to be resilient, capable of making tough decisions with integrity, and skilled in providing clear, strategic financial advice.
Finally, as a member of our Senior Leadership Team you will be able to strike the right balance between strategic and operational leadership.
