Hays are delighted to be partnering exclusively with The University of Warwick (Warwick Business School) who are looking to recruit a Finance Business Partner to join their research division on a permanent basis.
Your new role
As the Finance Business Partner, you will support the financial planning and monitoring of research activity, and provide advice and guidance within the school. This role could suit someone who is newly qualified or someone qualified, looking for a new challenge within the Education Industry.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Contribute to the production of detailed budgets for the school's research activities
- Produce a robust research income forecast for the School
- Prepare detailed quarterly and year-end monitoring statements for all research awards, update out-turn forecasts and ensure that all variances from forecast are discussed with budget holders and fully analysed.
- Act as an advisor on financial matters for relevant school budget holders, including attending meetings to discuss and influence performance, advising on applying financial regulations, training budget holders and disseminating financial management best practice.
- Advise the Chief Finance Officer and Head of Finance of any major emergent issues with respect to Research
- Supporting faculty by costing research grant bids and advising as necessary to maximise accuracy and benefit to the school whilst ensuring adherence to funder rules.
- Maintaining and improving systems for recording and monitoring the financial activities of all research activities to enable revenue, overheads and individual staff funding to be accurately forecast throughout the planning cycle. Ensure that research funding statements are kept up to date and that effective communication with research leads is maintained
- Provide professional supervision of the financial administration role of Research Activity support staff, ensure the correct procedures and processes are followed in relation both to individual bids and to the overall administration of the activity;
- Engage with University and school working groups as required, including analysing information and data and providing briefings and recommendations.
- Maximise the use of SAP to improve the efficiency and flow of information.
- Check and authorise purchase orders, fee payment requests and sales invoices and contribute to the management of other financial processing functions as required. Maintain system notes to ensure school financial procedures are fully documented for both finance staff and other users.
- To contribute to specific projects, for example, costings for new programmes, periodic costing reviews, and the provision of ad hoc information.
What you'll need to succeed
- Be an ACA, ACCA or CIMA Qualified Accountant
- Extensive financial management experience
- Experience of budgeting and monitoring complex activities
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication/stakeholder management
- The ability to pick up variances and advise on best practice
- Strong management accounting/project accounting experience
