Job Details
We have an opportunity for a mid level data privacy lawyer to join PwC's in-house legal department as maternity leave cover (starting in September 2024).
This role would sit within the Office of General Counsel (OGC) and work closely with legal and compliance colleagues to advise on a broad and varied portfolio of data protection work. This would include negotiating data processing and data sharing agreements, advising on cutting edge data-centred projects (including AI), and providing advice on areas such as international data transfers, legitimate interests assessments, and data protection legal requirements.
What your days will look like
Our OGC advises PwC on legal matters arising in its business including litigation, contracts with clients and suppliers, and M&A work. Within our in-house legal team, this lawyer will be supported by the team's existing, more junior, data protection lawyer, and encouraged to get involved in a varied range of data protection contracting work and will be one of the UK OGC point of contacts within the PwC network on data privacy matters. When providing support to the Data Protection Office, the individual will work to help shape the firm's processes and procedures to collect, store and process personal data. This may involve investigating legal issues, embedding policies, and formulating legal views about potential problems and the impact of regulatory guidance, enforcement actions and case law.
This role is for you if:
- Solicitor with a detailed knowledge of English law, must possess at least 6 years Post Qualification Experience (or an international equivalent). Time spent working in-house is an advantage but not a requirement.
- Good technical professional knowledge in data protection.
- Good experience with negotiating data processing agreements/ data sharing agreements. Good knowledge of UK/ EU data protection law and regulatory guidance.
- Ability to work with others to formulate opinions and advice on matters relating to data privacy using sound judgment to ensure that the firm's best interests are served.
- Ability to adapt to change and to be open minded and innovative in their thinking and good legal drafting skills.
