Job Details

Leading UK Family Law Firm seek a Forensic Tax Specialist to join their in-house financial and forensic team in London. Client facing role advising on tax matters relating to divorce remedy proceedings with excellent opportunities for career progression.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Identifying ways in which assets or their holding entities could be structured, amended, restructured, or unwound on divorce in order to create the most tax efficient outcome for clients in the splitting of marital assets
  • Familiarity with the main taxes and issues relevant in HNW/UHNW divorce, including domicile, Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax and the major reliefs/exemptions
  • Identify taxation that would be applicable for an individual in a wide range of situations including share schemes, EBTs, inheritance, property purchases and sales
  • Calculate the appropriate tax that would be applicable on the sale or transfer of assets, identifying applicable reliefs and any taxation risks
  • Calculate how taxation on divorce could affect Res/Non-Doms
  • Prepare suggestions for how an Order prepared by the Court, or suggested by a party, could be enacted in a tax efficient way, identifying all risks and benefits to your suggestions
  • Attend meetings directly with clients and be able to articulate clearly the actions you are taking and the impact you expect it to have on the case

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Relevant accounting or tax qualification e.g. CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent
  • Min. 2 years of working in tax advice, both individual and company taxes
  • Experience of international elements of tax and of HMRC’s investigations process would be beneficial
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to write persuasive advocacy
  • Ability to communicate to clients with empathy and to explain clearly to stakeholders the potential impacts of upcoming changes in tax law
