Your new company


Hays Senior Finance are currently partnering exclusively with a growing and well establish SME within the service sector who are looking to take on a hands-on and strategic Financial Controller. You will report directly to the Managing Director and partner with all the stakeholders throughout the business.

Your new role

  • to run the finances of the business.
  • to liaise with outsourced bookkeeping and payroll service suppliers, business consultants(s), and external auditors.
  • to review the existing financial reporting system and suggest improvements, enhancements or alternatives.
  • to improve management information on financial matters, such that full accrual basis monthly management accounts are available in a timely fashion, which the business owner can be confident to use as a base for making strategic decisions.
  • to suggest improvements to the financial management of the businesses.
  • to look for and create cost-saving efficiencies across the organisation.


What you'll need to succeed

  • highly numerate,
  • qualified accountant, ACA or CIMA, or QBE to those levels,
  • excellent experience and understanding of the professional services business,
  • to know what good looks like,
  • experience of implementing a new financial accounting system,
  • aspiration to be working on a part time basis initially, possibly as part of a portfolio - 2/3 days per week,
  • ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and third party suppliers,
  • a pleasant and assertive manner in dealing with people, tact, resilience and flexibility,
  • an effective communicator, orally, face to face, by phone and in writing and having a good command of written english,
  • personally efficient, with excellent time management skills and well-organised, with good control of diary systems and key dates policy,
  • excellent IT proficiency.
  • ability to discuss, set, inspire and motivate team members to follow targets.
  • strong commercial acumen with an ambition to be a key influencer within a growing and ambitious business.
