Job Details
Job description
- Provide detailed advice to clients, particularly in the industrial manufacturing and services sector, on the implications of changing environmental regulations associated with the drive to net-zero carbon emissions and environmental accountability (such as changes in extended producer responsibility regulation, deposit return schemes, single use plastics, the packaging and packaging waste regulation, ESG corporate reporting, UK REACH and the UK Emissions Trading Scheme).
- Work collaboratively alongside our other legal and technical specialists, to lead the delivery of ESG corporate governance advice to clients in a range of sectors, helping them to adapt the legal aspects of their ESG policies, practices and procedures in light of changing regulation and reporting requirements.
- Undertake due diligence support on EHS legal elements of transactions to help buyers or sellers of businesses with appropriate environmental risk management.
- Deal with all aspects of building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, alongside a director or partner, as well as our wider environment team. For most clients, we would expect the successful candidate to be the primary point of contact.
- Maintain regular contact with regulators and environmental consultants to keep up to date on market trends and regulatory developments and help support the delivery of work and identification of opportunities and risks on behalf of our clients.
- Business development support, helping drive client campaigns and proactively lead opportunities on existing and potential clients.
- Undertake internal risk management activity to support new projects, working with the Client Administrators to ensure all risk mitigation tasks are maintained.
Requirements: Minimum 2 years' experience in environmental law, including transactional advice. True adaptability, as the move to the Big Four requires an open mind and provides huge opportunities. Excellent knowledge and technical awareness of changing environmental regulations and practical implications of the same will be required.
