Job Details
We are seeking a Director to join our UK Actuarial Services practice.
The UK Life Insurance sector is undergoing unprecedented change and will do so for many years to come. Solvency II is in the process of being reformed for the UK market, and there is continued and significant transfer of liabilities from pension schemes to insurance company balance sheets. At the same time, insurers are employing increasingly sophisticated investment strategies.
As a result, we are seeing significant demand for advice and support in the area of investments, asset liability management (ALM) and broader risk management.
We are therefore seeking an experienced and energetic Director to support the growth of our UK Actuarial Services practice.
You will work closely with the Partners and Directors, and play a lead role in establishing PwC as the go-to firm for investment and ALM advisory in the insurance sector. This will help to support the firm's growth ambitions to scale insurance sector revenues over the coming three years.
In particular, you will be responsible for:
- Developing our investment and ALM propositions for the UK insurance market, working closely with colleagues across Risk and other Lines of Service;
- Overseeing and contributing to the production of market-leading thought leadership;
- Developing relationships and leading engagements with key client accounts, building a deep understanding of their businesses and their challenges/needs;
- Leading a team of investment and ALM specialists - acting as a role model, and developing their technical expertise;
- Representing PwC at relevant conferences and industry forums - including presenting and participation in panel discussions; and
- You will also be involved in driving forward our work with key clients on wider thematic issues (e.g. liquidity risk, counterparty risk) in the capital and investment space.
Preferred skills and experience
- Deep and proven experience in investment and ALM-related areas such as: portfolio construction, derivative structuring, hedge rebalancing, and strategic asset allocation;
- Deep and proven experience of the Solvency II Matching Adjustment;
- Recognised industry expert in investments and/or ALM;
- Experience in one or more of: ALM team within a Life insurer, insurance solutions team within an asset manager, investment banking role focusing on insurance clients, investment team within a reinsurer, ALM-focused role within consulting firm;
- Strong understanding of: different asset classes (public and private), current regulatory themes, insurance ALM frameworks, and insurance company investment trends;
- Have demonstrated an aptitude to develop a broad network, both internally and throughout the insurance industry;
- Experience of building and maintaining relationships with C-suite;
- Be commercial, with the ability and experience of working within a broader environment, and with vision as to developments at our clients and opportunities for consulting business;
- Be self-motivated, in particular taking responsibility for personal development and developing teams in technical and broader consulting skills;
- Experienced in managing and leading teams in technical areas;
- Have strong oral, listening and written communication skills; and
- Be strongly committed to both personal and corporate success.
Who we're looking for
- We are looking for individuals who are recognised industry experts, who are able to lead teams, and who are responsible, decisive, clear thinking and self-motivated.
- We are also looking for individuals who will bring energy and enthusiasm to the role, working alongside other leaders in the business to grow our insurance revenues over the next three years.
- You will lead on key client accounts, using your strong relationship and people management skills.
Location
The role can be based in any of our UK offices (such as London, Edinburgh, Bristol) with the opportunity to work with clients across the UK, as well as in Europe and internationally.
