Your new company
My client is a constituent College of the University of Oxford, founded in 1517. They are a vibrant, close-knit community of students, Fellows and lecturers from many different backgrounds and a home for both undergraduates as well as post-graduates. Their size gives everyone the opportunity to get involved, make an impact on College life, and be individually supported in the pursuit of excellence. They are situated right in the heart of Oxford - an inspiring oasis for study and friendship.
Your new role
I am looking for a qualified, part-qualified or QBE accountant with at least 5 years operational experience and previous involvement in system migrations to join the team in an interim capacity during an exciting period of change. The current Deputy Accountant is moving to a new post in the college and with the introduction of new systems there will be a period of significant change in processes and procedures.
The role requires hands on involvement on an operational day to day basis as well as partnering in designing testing and implementing the new systems and processes. Main areas of involvement will be the Sales Ledger including Invoicing of Students, Academics and for the Conferencing business. However, the Deputy will also play a role on purchase ledger, cash book and other operational accounting. The role requires a willingness and ability to perform data input and processing tasks alongside streamlining procedures, introducing paperless processes and workflow authorisation tools. There will be the opportunity to input to the design and implementation of the new systems and the deputy accountant will be required to perform data migration and user acceptance testing and other project tasks.
What you'll need to succeed
Highly organised with experience of operational accounting, attention to detail, and an ability to multi-task and manage a varied workload are pivotal to the success of this role. The postholder will be used to working with a range of stakeholders: for this role this will include a wide range of internal colleagues, members of college and conferencing customers. With excellent communication skills, numerate and with understanding of sales ledger, purchase ledger, cashbook and general ledger accounting they will play a key role in a busy team. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential as well-being a qualified accountant or qualified by experience. Experience of working in an Oxford College would be desirable, but is not essential.
What you'll get in return
This post will be paid up to £50,000 FTE depending upon experience. The College offers 29 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, per annum on the basis that one week is taken off at Christmas. Membership of the staff contributory pension scheme, and free meals when working, and when the kitchen is open, also form part of the package.
The role is for 30 hours per week, a flexible approach to working patterns and hours is needed to ensure outputs are delivered accurately to deadlines. Evening or weekend working is not the norm but might exceptionally be required for example at financial year-end, as part of the budget process or if a new system were being implemented.
