Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering with a well-established and successful agricultural group based in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire to recruit for an experienced and dynamic Financial Controller. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will help to ensure the Finance team is able to operate effectively by providing leadership, coaching, knowledge, and experience as required. You will be responsible for the planning and execution of all aspects of accounting and finance, including reporting, budgeting, analysis, and decision support. A key focus area is to help us improve our in-house statutory financial reporting capability and reduce reliance on external accountants where appropriate. Your new role

Key duties will involve managing the finance team to optimise performance, deliver against targets and ensure personal development for other team members. You will maintain oversight of all group areas both financial and operational, providing accounting and reporting services including budgeting and analysis. You will take the lead in statutory financial reporting, improving processes, systems and controls as the group grows further. You will proactively manage costing processes throughout the year, provide financial analysis to aid key business decisions for operational management, along with reviewing the accounting work of the team to drive efficiencies. You will be involved in ad-hoc duties and projects for the senior management team and be adaptable to business needs.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this exciting and newly created Financial Controller role you will need experience within a similar position, qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience with team management experience, and strong communication skills to build both internal/external relationships. You will ideally have strong experience with producing statutory accounts, key MS Excel skills, and be trained in a range of financial systems. You will be keen to develop processes/systems, strong attention to detail, and be adaptable to suit business needs. You will be able to lead and operate autonomously with proven commercial awareness and be able to delegate effectively when necessary. Experience within the agricultural sector would be advantageous but not essential.
