JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
Manager
Based in Norwich [will consider Ipswich or Holt]
Working hours Flexible
This role is graded at Level 7 within our job grading framework.
To be part of the management team within our Private Client Group, providing specialist private client tax advice to our clients and colleagues.
Work with the colleagues to actively contribute to the growth of the private client team whilst monitoring the quality of work across the firm, identifying new risks and opportunities and seeking to continually exceed client expectations.
Main Responsibilities:
Technical
- Draft technically complex advice and supervise/review the work of colleagues. Identify areas of risk by undertaking research and analysis of tax legislation, tax cases and changes to HMRC guidance. Respond to legislative changes in a timely fashion. Undertake high risk personal tax/and/or/trust tax compliance reviews. Advice regarding tax residency/domicile Taxation of Crypto Currency Succession planning including the use of trusts and Family Investment Companies as examples. Advising on property tax matters
General
- Look to meet with client in place of the partner. Responsibility for work planning across the team. Involvement in the recruitment and development of members of the team. Developing the team to ensure long term capability, utilising necessary leadership and management skills, promoting consistency with the Firm’s values. Embrace the Firm’s vision, mission and values and translate these into day-to-day actions to lead and develop others.
Business development
- Actively seek out opportunities to develop and grow business within the private client tax team. Involvement in business development activities including developing intermediary relationships, writing marketing materials for client and potential clients. Involvement in seminars. Maintain up-to-date understanding of client’s affairs. Maintain good working relationships with clients. Awareness of the wide range of Larking Gowen services and ability to spot opportunities to potentially sell those services. Active involvement in office marketing events, when appropriate, acting as an ‘ambassador’ of the Firm.
Task management
- Ensure the Firm carries out its professional duties properly. Acting as a mentor for seniors and assistant managers. Work with less experienced colleagues to develop their specialist areas. Consistently achieve deadlines and understand the commercial implications of actions relating to productivity, recoverability, fee income and client service.
Training
- Attend training courses as identified in order to develop both technical and personal skills and keep records for compliance purposes.
Other Responsibilities:
- Adheres to the Firm’s risk management policies and procedures. Undertakes other duties to meet the demands of the business.
Education and qualification
- CTA,ACA, ACCA, (or equivalent)
Experience
Essential:
- Significant experience within practice Experience of coaching or mentoring colleagues Experience working as part of a multi-disciplined team Proven ability to adapt quickly to changing deadline and priorities. Experience of preparing and reviewing technically complex advice Ability to work flexibly as part of a team Ability to respond to risks in an appropriate fashion
Desirable
- Undertaking firm-wide responsibilities Experience of the use of CCH software for tax compliance work
