Job Description:

This role is a Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) or Internal Secondment Opportunity until September 2024

 

We’re looking for a number of Accountants interested in working alongside our large central Government client. This role involves delivering key financial processes in accordance with our client’s requirements, contributing to unqualified audited accounts and delivering robust financial information to senior managers and other stakeholders.  

 

Please note our client will be involved in the selection process and will be provided with anonymised versions of shortlisted candidate CVs for review and confirmation. Successful candidates will be asked to undertake both Grant Thornton and the client’s background checks prior to being confirmed for the role.

In Public Services Advisory, we help to deliver capital projects, collaborative structures and arrangements, contracting, financial analysis and assurance, modelling, data analytics, strategy development, performance improvement, system transformation and the integration of services across the public sector. We are a single team of over 120 professionals, and we support each other across all areas of our business and areas of practice. Our projects and work are varied and complex and are often at the forefront of the political agenda.

 

A look into the role


As a Finance Officer Assistant Manager within Public Services Advisory, you will:

  • Deliver high quality service and work to one of our central Government clients on a secondment/FTC basis
  • Support our client’s team to ensure their accounts are fit for purpose, contribute to financial statements and reports and proactively engage with stakeholders
  • Strive for technical excellence and quality in the delivery of work in accordance with the firm’s and client’s guidelines
  • Demonstrate excellent project management skills, delivering to quality, time and financial targets
  • Produce project documentation and client reports ensuring that these are high quality and professionally presented 
  • Develop an understanding of client needs and ensures an excellent standard of support is provided to our client
  • Have a strong awareness of and adherence to the firm’s and client’s risk management processes and procedures, professional standards and ethics
  • Follow the firm’s and client methodologies and procedures and adhere to quality assurance requirements
  • Builds and maintains good working relationship with colleagues and manages relationships with key clients
  • Demonstrate a clear appetite for self-development through the performance review and personal development plan process, taking responsibility for developing own technical and personal skills

 

Knowing you’re right for us

 

Joining us as an Assistant Manager, the minimum criteria you’ll need a minimum of one of the following:

  • A finance-related university degree qualification
  • An AAT qualification
  • Part qualification with a CCAB (or CIMA) professional body
  • Proven experience gained within a finance, tax or accounting role

 

You will also have:

  • Worked within or consulted into the public sector, or have a desire to work with the public sector
  • Experience providing advice or analysis to internal or external clients
  • Good verbal and written communication with experience of reporting and presenting to clients/stakeholders
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • A high degree of self-motivation with evidence of innovation and initiative
  • Demonstrated your ability as a team player
