The division and our team:

This role is within PwC’s Risk line of service within the Financial Services practice. Across PwC and within Risk, we work with our clients to help them solve their biggest challenges and to do work that matters.

Our Risk division has big aspirations for growth over the next 3 years and beyond. Within our Financial Services practice, the Banking Conduct team will contribute to this growth and is looking for passionate and experienced individuals with an innovation and growth mindset to be a part of this journey.

The Banking Conduct team is comprised of 50 plus individuals across the UK focused on delivering large-scale risk and regulatory-driven change in wholesale and retail financial services with a focus on conduct and non-financial risks. This role is targeted at retail banking professionals. We support our clients to help make smarter and strategic risk decisions, optimise their risk and control environments, maintain customer-centricity and ultimately be a trusted risk partner in helping their business thrive and grow.

About the role:

The role has been created due to a number of growth opportunities and successes across retail financial services markets.

You will be a part of the team driving the development of technology-enabled client solutions and offerings which help our retail banking clients manage their conduct risks and deliver good customer outcomes. This is a growth priority for our business, and therefore provides a unique opportunity to be at the centre of growing our retail banking conduct proposition at a time of significant change across the industry.

Typical projects in our team include:

  • Consumer Duty

  • Regulatory reforms

  • Non-financial risk transformation

  • Consumer credit and lending practices

  • Regulatory authorisations and licensing

Our team is based across the UK, with hubs in London, Edinburgh and Manchester.

Responsibilities:

We are looking for a talented individual to support this growth area with a focus on helping build our technology-enabled retail conduct assets and services. As a key member of our team, you will have a client-facing role working as part of our delivery teams on client engagements; and managing and coaching junior staff.

Required experience:

  • Experience working within retail banking, specifically regarding non-financial and conduct risk and/or controls either from a consulting, industry or regulatory perspective

  • A technology-enabled mindset, with prior experience of designing and/or using technology solutions to enhance risk management / controls processes (which may include data visualisation tools such as PowerBI, Alteryx)

  • Commercial awareness of retail banking business models; sound reporting skills and the ability to work under your own initiative

  • An agility to effectively participate in varied projects within retail banking (with bank and non-bank clients)

  • Understanding of the customer journey/experience in a regulated retail banking environment

Desirable experience:

  • Experience working with large UK retail banking institutions and/or FinTechs

  • Awareness of the impact of regulation on firms’ business models and the changes required to improve how regulatory and conduct risk is managed, including customer outcomes

  • An appreciation of the UK regulatory conduct regime and how it will evolve under the new Consumer Duty including concepts underpinning regulatory permissions, governance and conduct risk

  • Management of teams of 4 to 2 individuals.

Skills:

  • The ability to work under pressure and deal with ambiguity

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills both verbal and written (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)

  • Good attention to detail

Relevant qualifications (desirable but not essential):

  • Accounting and/or internal controls related qualification, e.g. ACA

  • A relevant risk, compliance and / or technology accreditation

The role is permanent and full time, however we would consider someone working part time, 4 days per week. At PwC we offer hybrid working, so 2-3 days in the office / on a client site.
