Unique opportunity to apply your Valuations skills in-house at this top flight boutique law firm

Your new company
In a class of its own in its specialist field, our client is a boutique law firm specialising in family matters. While external Experts are appointed when needed, they also have an in-house Forensic Accounting function which supports a lot of the HNWI client work they do.

Your new role
The firm have created a new role at Senior Associate level for a Valuations specialist, with some additional Tax knowledge.
Responsibilities include:

    • Assisting with the triage of client enquiries, in particular producing quick and approximate valuations of corporate assets based on publicly-available information.
    • Attending initial client meetings to understand the issues involved and provide preliminary advice on corporate and trust assets;
    • Leading analysis on corporate/trust valuations and latent tax liabilities; codifying into a format to be disclosed to the other side of a matrimonial case;
    • Critically analysing the disclosure of corporate/trust assets of the other side of a matrimonial case; providing simple explanations to the client, spotting omissions, errors and questions to be posed;
    • Briefing and attending meetings with clients and with matrimonial and/or tax counsel;
    • Identifying appropriate single or joint valuation and/or tax experts;
    • Writing letters of instruction to single or joint valuation or tax experts;
    • Reviewing the reports of single or joint valuation or tax experts; providing simple explanations of their report; spotting errors and posing questions;
    • Attending court.

What you'll need to succeed
You need to come from a Valuations background ideally, but a Forensic Accountant with a strong valuations element and existing experience of matrimonial proceedings would also be of interest. Either way, knowledge of tax liabilities in the context of company valuation is important to this role.

Essential:

  • Qualified accountant
  • At least 3 years of post-qualification experience in company valuations
  • Client-friendly; polished and highly professional in demeanour
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with a team of lawyers

Desirable

  • Experience in valuations within the context of litigation

What you'll get in return
No more BD! Become a trusted internal advisor, to some of the best legal minds in the land, and in turn to their clients. The FA teams in law firms are immensely professionally and intellectually satisfying places to work. This team is purely internally chargeable, so WLB is typically better than in consulting.
