Client Details
I am working with a growing medical diagnostics business who are opening up new modern offices in Salford and are looking to hire an ambitious Management Accountant into a newly created role that has natural progression to a Finance Manager and beyond. The Group CFO is very passionate about career progression and work life balance. They are the market leader within the UK and are about to secure a new contract which will add another £50m plus in revenue.
Description
The Management Accountant (MA) role will be the most senior hire in their new Manchester office and is part of a team of MAs responsible for the delivery of the integrity of the General Ledgers, sub ledgers and Group reporting. The team's work is centred around the financial reporting calendar set locally by the Board and group-wide. The Management Accounting team plays an important part in ensuring UK group compliance with financial internal controls.
The key responsibilities are
Deliver period end reporting: As part of the Financial Control team, the core objective is to deliver all relevant outputs for the group's reporting calendar for local management and group, including the month end reporting pack (MRP), half-year and annual GRP and associated schedules, Executive and Board packs, and any analysis associated with it.
Monitor and report on compliance with internal controls: The MA is responsible for supporting the SMA and FCs in ensuring
evidentiary compliance with all elements of internal control obligations, such as documented reviews of GL reconciliations, reviews of master data in AX and other systems, and the timely reporting and escalation of any internal control issues.
Manage the General Ledgers and financial statements:
- Work with the SMA to deliver the allocated accounting of the monthly profit and loss accounts and balance sheets for the group, ensuring consistency and accuracy, identifying any prepayments or accruals required for month end reporting including journaling correcting entries for reallocations when identified.
- Prepare and document monthly balance sheet reconciliations including backing schedules and relevant breakdowns, having such schedules in an "audit-ready" state at all times. Investigate and clear down any reconciling items in a timely manner and ensure compliance with Sonic Group accounting policies.
- Contribute to the preparation of quarterly reconciliations to identify transactions that should be recharged between companies within the Group. An understanding of the contractual agreements in place will be required to be able to successfully track and recharge intercompany cross charges.
- Contribute to the preparation of divisional profit and loss accounts including commentary for reporting to the Board.
Business knowledge: Liaise with staff across the business as necessary to understand any material movements in management accounts compared to budget and document the understanding on a monthly basis in the format of management commentary.
Budgets and forecasts: Contribute to the preparation of the annual budgets and forecasts. Ensure the integrity of reported data linking back to these documents at all
Processes and continuous improvement: The MA should have the overriding objective to constantly review and improve the work done within their portfolio and the team. The MA is expected to identify opportunities for improvement and to assist with streamlining relevant processes and controls.
