Required: Must only have 2 exams left on CIMA or ACCA Key responsibilities:

  • To partner with a cohort of key stakeholders, providing insight and understanding to ensure their schools and the Trust meet the established financial objectives.
  • To provide insight, and challenge the performance of schools and support functions identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • To improve the visibility of financial, commercial and operational performance during each financial period.
  • To establish a common meeting structure with senior colleagues in schools to ensure that performance and variance against budget is understood.
  • To support schools and the Trust through any financial systems changes and upgrades.
  • To interact with non-financial colleagues, interpreting complicated information and analysis articulately.
  • To build and manage relationships effectively and network productively to increase the performance of the finance function across the Trust.
  • To complete regular reporting of financial performance, KPIs and associated commentary, supporting the Finance Manager to deliver timely, accurate and meaningful management accounts.
  • Through accurate and timely monthly accounting provide assurance to the Finance Manager that income and expenditure are appropriately recognised and opportunities are not missed.
  • To compile the management accounts on a monthly basis ensuring all reporting and reconciliations are produced accurately and in a format which will meet both internal and external audit requirements.
  • To review the management accounts identifying risks and opportunities which may occur and work with the Finance Manager, Headteachers and schools to implement plans to address these.
  • To deputise for the Finance Manager, ensuring all management and statutory accounting and returns are completed within internal and external timescales in their absence.
  • To influence senior management across the Trust using financial insight and organisational knowledge.
  • To manage own priorities effectively and ensure sufficient time is dedicated to the proactive identification of opportunities.
  • To support the Finance Manager with the year-end external audit
  • To support the Finance Manager with internal scrutiny and other internal audits which impact on Finance.
  • To support the Finance Manager to draft budgets and reforecasts.
  • To make use of regular benchmarking analysis and associated reports, highlighting variances to make financial improvements in schools.
  • To support the Finance Manager with all aspects of compliance with the Academies Trust Handbook.
  • To attend Senior Leadership Group Meetings and Governor meetings in the absence of the Finance Manager or as required.
  • To coach, mentor, and guide team members to monitor and improve the quality and effectiveness of their work and support their development.
  • To provide training on finance systems and procedures to staff across the Trust.
  • To ensure that the highest standards of financial integrity are maintained.
  • To deliver short term / one-off projects and activities as required by and to the standards and outcomes agreed with Finance Manager


An Enhanced DBS is required for this role (Client will provide)
