Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services
£75k – £80k • Flexible working, with occasional travel to London
The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health was established in 1883, but traces its roots back even further to Edwin Chadwick’s groundbreaking 1842 Report on the Sanitary Conditions of the Labouring Population of Great Britain. And ever since, we’ve been instrumental in developing many of the environmental standards that have contributed to better public health and wellbeing.
Today, we are the membership and awarding body for the environmental health sector. Our 7,000+ members work around the world, across all areas of environmental health including food, public health, housing, environmental protection, and health and safety. We set and raise standards, campaign to improve public health, support our members’ professional development, and influence policy.
This is an exceptional opportunity to take on a broad and rewarding leadership role. With accountability for a range of key areas, including finance, risk, HR and IT, you’ll play a central part in keeping the CIEH at the forefront of our field. We responded to the challenges of the pandemic by making some bold, innovative changes to how we work, and the benefits are already showing in many areas. We’ll look to you to embed and build on our success to date, and continue the process of transformation and modernisation that we’ve set in train. And as our organisational lead on finance, you will advise the board and audit committee on a range of issues.
Candidates will be highly experienced, resourceful and flexible, with a focus on ensuring that robust systems and processes are in place across all areas of the role. You’ll also bring a track record of reviewing and improving operations, timely and accurate management reporting, and leading teams through change. You must be a qualified accountant, and have substantial experience in the charity / not-for-profit sector; additional post-qualification professional development (e.g. MBA) would be a distinct advantage.
We support flexible working and welcome proposals for alternative working models, such as term time working. And we warmly encourage applications from those who bring us new and diverse insights or experience.

Closing date: 10 August 2022.
