Overall Responsibility

  • To cost effectively provide advisory, compliance and tax planning services to your portfolio of personal and corporate tax clients within agreed budgets and timescales
  • Preparation of complex tax returns for corporate and private clients
  • Advising on and assisting with technical and compliance in respect of all taxes (i.e. Inheritance, VAT, Capital, Corporate and Personal tax)
  • Effective communication with clients to ensure they are fully appraised of their tax affairs at all times and are made aware of their tax liabilities in a timely manner.
  • Exploiting tax planning opportunities and other services
  • Meeting statutory deadlines
  • Meeting billing targets
  • To ensure all duties are performed in compliance with the Firm’s Staff Handbook and Procedures Manual and as summarised in “Hamlyn’s – the Essentials” and “Commercial Guidelines”.
  • To grow a develop the Tax Department, including recruitment and staff development
  • To provide technical tax expertise to members of the Firm

Managing client jobs

Overseeing the following

  • Ensure that client workflow is managed in accordance with the Firm’s procedures
  • Issue, chase and submit 64-8s
  • Ensure all personal tax clients are on the HMRC database
  • Send April SATR letters
  • E-mail client to acknowledge receipt of tax information and request any outstanding data
  • Log date of receipt of tax information
  • Chase information due from clients · Chase SATRs that are outstanding with clients · Submit SATRs to HMRC · Send January & July payment advice in November (for January deadline) and May (for July deadline) · Send back client’s original tax documentations as requested 
  • Produce ad hoc letters for the tax department
  • Ensuring the Firm’s procedures manual always reflects our current practices
  • Preparing and submitting client tax returns through the accurate collection, collation and review of client information
  • Seeking out Partner and Associate advice, as appropriate
  • Delegating as appropriate
  • Update your aspect of the database to ensure that accurate exception reports can be prepared at all times

Person Specification

Expertise

  • ACA/ACCA and CTA qualified with excellent knowledge of UK personal & corporate taxation
  • 3+ years post qualification experience
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations
  • Knowledge of economic principles and current affairs

Skills

  • Commercial Acumen ·
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) is essential
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills as well as an excellent telephone manner
