Assistant Regional Accountant, Birmingham, £33,000 to £35,000


Hays are delighted to be working with a large public sector organisation in the recruitment of an Assistant Accountant/Finance Business Partner. This role is a really exciting opportunity for a part-qualified or finalist candidate to join a small and dynamic finance team, where they will get great exposure to finance business partnering, working closely with a range of budget holders and key stakeholders within a national organisation. This role is being offered on the basis that there is a permanent role available at the end of the 6-month probationary period subject to performance reviews, and is offering a salary of up to £33,150 dependent on experience. This role would suit someone who is actively studying CIMA or ACCA, and is looking to add to their previous finance business partnering exposure.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • To assist in supporting budget holders in their respective financial management responsibilities
  • To work with budget holders to prepare budgets, forecasts and longer term financial plans
  • To undertake financial monitoring visits periodically depending on the level of support needed and level of risk
  • To monitor budgets, investigate variances and alert the Field Accountant and divisional leaders of matters of concern
  • To monitor and report on the performance of budget holder activities
  • To assist in ensuring budget holders adhere to the procedures set out
  • To assist the Regional Accountant in preparing commentaries on the financial performance of budget holders
  • To work with budget holders to prepare costed proposals for new programmes review the viability of existing programmes
  • To work with the budget holders to prepare funding packages for projects
  • To provide advice and where necessary training to budget holder personnel on financial management and use of management information
  • To liaise with Central Services and internal Finance Teams to ensure effective support is provided


In order to be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience in a management accounting role
  • Part qualified CCAB/CIMA accountant
  • Demonstrably strong Excel skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good organisational, team-working and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of working with and explaining finance issues with nonfinance personnel
  • Knowledge of charity accounting desirable
  • Willing to travel as required to visit corps, including occasional later hours or overnight stays
