Interim Financial Accountant for education trust 6 months plus circa £200-£300 per day


Your new company
My client is a large multi academy education trust operating multiple primary and secondary schools across the country with a combined annual budget of circa 90 million. The Trust places significant importance on strong financial management within each academy and across the network. This post will play a key role in this, working with both finance staff in the central team and non-finance staff across all the Trust's academies. This is a key role within the Central Support Services team, which comprises Finance, HR, Facilities Management, Data, Governance, IT and Marketing professionals and brings together experience from a broad range of public and private sector organisations.

Your new role
You will be an Interim Financial Accountant, providing effective financial accounting and control across the Trust, including balance sheet control, cash flow management, regulatory and external reporting, tax compliance (excluding employment taxes) as well as development of internal control policies and procedures and financial risk management. The role will be based in Loughborough with occasional UK wide travel. Main duties for the role are:-

  • Support with ensuring income and expenditure is accurately recorded based on restricted / non-restricted status, income for specific purposes is appropriately recorded and accounting records appropriately maintained in relation to expenditure of restricted grants and donations.
  • Produce grant reporting as required for grant-awarding organisations.
  • Reconcile GAG income received to funding letters and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Reconcile Pupil Premium and other government grants to published allocations and investigate differences.
  • Support administration of 16-19 Bursary funds, under the direction of the Finance Partner for Secondary Education.
  • Ensure fixed asset reporting is accurate.



What you'll need to succeed
You will be a qualified accountant and be highly numerate, analytical and logical with a strong attention to detail. You will also have had experience in mentorship of an assistant accountant.

  • Strong technical accountant to lead on statutory account production from planning through to audit (year end 31 August) starting with full review of balance sheet
  • Assist us with reporting restricted/unrestricted income
  • Mentor our newly appointed Assistant Financial Accountant through the year end process (very important)
