This is a leading international audit regulator, playing a significant role globally in the promotion and development of audit regulation.

Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring quality and consistency across audit inspections performed over banking audits at some of the professional audit firms, involved in auditing public interest entities.

The role is central to the assessment of audit quality across the profession and provides an insight into how the major firms operate and how they are responding to current issues in the profession (in particular, in relation to banking and other financial services) and changes in regulatory requirements. Successful candidates will also have the satisfaction of being able to influence the practices and procedures of the major audit firms to enhance quality.

  • Conduct banking audit file reviews, focusing on audits subject to inspection. File reviews include analysis of audit workpapers, information gathering through informal and formal questioning of the audit team, discussion with the audit firm of potential issues identified, and conclude with final written reporting.
  • Complete banking audit file reviews at the big four, mid-tier, international and/or public sector firms (with the majority of time typically being spent reviewing FTSE 350 audits at the big 4 firms).
  • Conduct inspections of firm-wide procedures at the major audit firms as required.
  • Lead tranches of banking audit quality inspection activity as required.
  • Supervision and coaching of more junior team members as required.
  • Participate in other projects as required.
  • Supporting audit firm supervisors and playing a role in the production of the annual public reports on audit firms in relation to inspection findings.
  • Working as a team, together with colleagues across other divisions.

Profile

Experience at a Senior Manager level in external banking audits of listed entities and some involvement in audit quality initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An accounting qualification coupled with membership of ICAEW, ACCA, ICAS or ICAI (or equivalent)
  • Significant post qualification experience in the audits of listed banks and other credit institutions.
  • Strong technical auditing and accounting skills (including a good knowledge of IFRS), particularly in banking.
  • A demonstrable interest in an audit firm's audit quality initiatives.

Job Offer

  • Salary £88,000.
  • Play a significant role globally in the promotion and development of audit regulation.
  • Hybrid working.
  • 30 days annual leave plus ability to buy extra leave.
  • Generous employer pension contribution of 10%.
  • A very strong work/life balance ethos.
