£65,241 (including inner London weighting of £4611)

There is more to the RCN than you might think. We’re a trade union with a membership of close to half a million nurses, midwives, nursing support workers and students. We support their practice, represent them, lobby on their behalf, and develop them. We exist to make a positive difference – to the working lives of our members and ultimately to standards in patient care. Our employees are drawn from many walks of life – we are nurses, marketers and communicators, administrators, IT professionals, policy and finance experts, lawyers… together we are so much more. We couldn’t do what we do without our people.

We're accredited with Investors in People Gold Standard. Our people are our greatest asset, and we want people who can contribute to our purpose in line with our values.

As Financial Accounts Manager, you will be responsible for managing the financial accounting and treasury management function for the RCN, and through separate Service Level Agreements, the RCN Foundation and RCNi. You will effectively and efficiently manage the year end process for the RCN Group, RCN, RCNi and RCN Foundation, and other RCN Group entities as required. You will be the recognised go to person for all matters relating to accounting regulation including both FRS 102 and Charity SORP and the day-to-day lead with the RCN Group’s external auditors. Your recognition within the RCN Group will extend to being the recognised expert on all VAT matters and first contact for corporation tax issues.

You will lead the financial accounts team, which provides a full financial accounting and reporting function and also has responsibility for day-to-day management and oversight of all RCN, RCNi, and RCN Foundation banking, treasury, and investment management arrangements.

You will take up this role at an exciting time. The RCN is currently transforming the way it delivers its services to members and other stakeholders, implementing new systems and platforms to ensure it is relevant to its members both now and in the future. Over the next few years, you will have the opportunity to be at the heart of the transformation of the finance function as it works with all parts of the group to develop and imbed new systems and processes across the group to ensure the user journey for all our stakeholders is as seamless as possible.

To succeed in this role, you will hold a recognised CCAB qualification, and be able to demonstrate up to date knowledge of accounting standards and regulation with significant experience in other financial accounting roles. You will bring to the role a desire to proactively engage with both finance department colleagues and senior managers across the RCN Group to ensure control frameworks are robust, effective, and fit for purpose within the RCN Group and all its entities.

What we offer you

Our pay is highly competitive with annual leave up to 32 days plus bank holidays. We offer an impressive range of benefits, a broad range of learning development opportunities and an award-winning health and wellbeing programme.

Balancing work and life commitments is important to us as an organisation. We are a diverse organisation and understand everyone has different needs. Many of our employees enjoy flexible working enabling them to deliver results whilst having a good work life balance. We offer generous maternity, adoption, paternity, and shared parental leave packages.

As a result of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic, most of our staff are currently working from home. When this ends, we’ll start trialling blended office and home working to empower our people to do their best work recognising that, to give our best, we must be able to balance the demands of work and home.
