A bit about the role...

Working within the Technical Accounting team, you will be responsible for assessing the correct accounting and budgetary treatment for new programmes and complex transactions, preparing reports and accounting papers to be utilised by staff with varying levels of accountancy knowledge. You'll be providing a key role in the preparation of the Agency's annual financial statements. 

Our Technical Accounting team is currently predominantly based in Newcastle however you will be able to work from any of our UK offices locations excluding London & Manchester.

You'll be reporting to Kathryn Addison, our Senior Technical Accounting Manager. The Technical Accounting team are dedicated to providing first class taxation and technical accounting advice within the Finance team and to the wider business.

You will be expected to work in an agile and flexible way, which will also involve collaboration with various teams and directorates. 

This is a rare chance to shape the future in a fast growing, national organisation with real social purpose. Working with key stakeholders and a professional Finance team you will ensure efficient, consistent and effective resolution of technical accounting queries from across the Agency.

A bit about you…

You'll be a recognised professional accountant, qualified with an ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA or have other equivalent qualification. As an experienced finance professional, you’ll understand how to manage colleagues and be able to demonstrate you can work with others as part of a team in a collaborative, inclusive way.

You'll have an excellent eye for detail and be able to meet strict deadlines with a demonstrable track record in technical accounting, including knowledge on IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and experience of year-end or month-end accounts production.

Being responsible for ensuring that International Financial Reporting Standards and HM Treasury Financial Reporting Manual requirements are interpreted and applied correctly, you will have advanced data interrogation and analytical skills and be proficient in the writing of reports.

You'll be comfortable supporting the Senior Technical Accounting Manager and Assistant Director of Financial Reporting with complex accounting issues as well as being excellent at report writing and have good analysis and IT skills.

You will be resilient and comfortable managing stakeholders at a senior level with the ability to negotiate and persuade, and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as a finance team.
